What's New in VE Suite v6.1

Virtual Enterprise (VE) Suite v6.1 combines the power of Shunra's high-performance appliance with new customer-requested software enhancements to provide the solution your organization needs to ensure that service levels are met. As applications scale across more users, and the complexity of managing your production network increases, it is essential to include production network (WAN) behavior in your pre-deployment testing.

"We would highly recommend Shunra VE to others. Using Shunra VE, we are able to complete tests in one test lab that would have previously required assistance from individuals all over the world. We can now simulate a Tokyo – to – Australia – to – London – to – Ft. Lauderdale link right in the lab. This allows us to test new software right away, debug it immediately, and test it again. We can have the developers sitting right there. They can walk in, see the issue as the user would see it, and fix the problem. All the people we need are in one lab."

– Russ Naples, Vice President of Software Products.

Why Choose to Upgrade to VE Suite v6.1

Simply click on the tabs below to find out the challenges that VE Suite v6.1 can now help you solve.

How available bandwidth on the network will impact application performance

Challenge

Many organizations today are dealing with data-intensive applications on their network or business critical applications where transactions times must be guaranteed. And this is happening while user load and network traffic are increasing. Due to budget constraints, network capacity planning needs to be a science. It requires the ability to understand how production network traffic levels impact application performance.

Solution

Shunra can now provide a truly unique capability that delivers a very accurate, real-world view into how bandwidth availability will impact application performance. This can save organizations the cost and embarrassment of deploying applications that have performance issues due to bandwidth constraints, or even worse – failed deployments.

Shunra provides the ability to measure and record available bandwidth, latency and packet loss between two points on a network. These WAN conditions can then be "played back" using Shunra's VE STA appliance dynamic bandwidth emulation.

Predict application performance on mobile networks

Challenge

Mobile network performance can be unpredictable. Live testing mobile applications using a variety of mobile devices through different mobile service providers has its limitations. Such testing does not provide a controlled or repeatable environment where problems can be repeated or isolated for further troubleshooting. Furthermore, testing different mobile devices through different mobile service providers between different locations can be a logistical nightmare – costing your organization valuable time and resources. Or even worse, you may be told you have a week to test, and then you know you can't confirm accurate performance in all cases. Existing lab solutions can help test across multiple mobile devices, but they lack the ability to recreate the various mobile service types and air interference.

Solution

Shunra now provides you with a way to emulate application performance on mobile networks in a test lab environment. You can emulate the mobile network conditions for thousands of mobile users by leveraging Shunra's VE Multi-Points add-on. You can validate application performance while running over various mobile transmission technologies and link conditions – all within a controlled lab environment. Further, you can use VE Bandwidth Catcher Lite to record mobile latency, packet loss and bandwidth availability, then playback in the VE STA to test performance under specific real-world conditions.

Ensures optimal levels of appliance utilization across the organization

Challenge

Organizations require that IT investments be managed in a way that shows executive management how they are continuing to get more out of these tools. Those using VE Suite need to demonstrate what's in it for the organization – or how they can achieve better utilization – across the entire organization.

Solution

Shunra provides an unparalleled solution within the VE STA appliance that addresses this challenge by providing multiple concurrent users with independent modeling and reporting environments. This enables users from various teams to login to the VE Suite and leverage the appliance as if they were the only ones using it. The VE STA appliances support up to 15 concurrent users and up to 100 unique emulation flows.

This new VE Advanced Multi-Useradd-on functionality extends the return on investment of the VE Suite by letting other teams leverage testing simultaneously, increasing overall usage and productivity. And it may also enable you to cut costs if shared across IT teams!

Easily Relocate Clients without Leaving your Lab

Challenge

Application testing labs must support various applications and diverse test equipment. While application testing with WAN conditions is critical to understanding how your application will perform on your network, it's not always easy to provision your lab to recreate this dynamic environment. This is especially true when you're dependent upon IT service requests to administer network changes. Test Engineers need a way to administer their lab so clients can be easily switched through a Shunra VE appliance for WAN emulation testing, and then set back to "normal" when done.

Solution

When you have select clients you want test with WAN conditions you can now use VLAN technology to temporarily direct traffic through a Shunra VE appliance. When your VE appliance is installed simply define a VLAN that is switched through the appliance; WAN conditions can be applied to this traffic. Further, the VE appliance now supports VLAN ID modification to make this alternate path into your application servers transparent. If you want to see how a group of local clients will perform after an office is relocated, simply place that group of clients on the VLAN switched to your VE appliance.

This can be administered in your lab with minimal impact on your IT infrastructure. No need to reconfigure IP Addresses, IP Subnets or Default Gateways.

Predict VoIP quality accurately

Challenge

While deploying VoIP can provide an organization with many benefits, ensuring its performance for end users can get complex. If you're responsible for managing your organization's VoIP quality, you are challenged by the accuracy of the testing technology.

Solution

The new version of VE Suite enables you to create very granular network impairments for greater control over your VoIP testing environment and the accuracy of predicting user experience with VoIP. You can now recreate extreme WAN conditions in your test lab, defined in the Telecommunications Industry Association's (TIA) standard TIA-921 for evaluating VoIP (and other multimedia) transmission performance.
